Brooke Barkley ’20, M’22 chose West Chester University in part because of the Accelerated 3+2 BS and MS degree, which awards the B.S. in Sports Medicine Studies concentration and the MS in Athletic Training in five years of study. Since then, her interests have expanded.
“I want to have more interaction with patients,” Brooke says. In 2024, she’ll graduate with a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. “I’m really interested in orthopedic surgery – not only diagnosing the problem, but fixing it.”
Having access to an anatomage table has propelled Brooke’s studies to the next level. Students can interact with body scans of real people through digital dissection, adding labels, and highlighting areas – they can also download screen shots and quiz themselves.
“Some cadavers don’t have every single element, and structures like the eye and reproductive organs require more in-depth explanation,” says Brooke.
“Medicine is constantly changing,” she adds. “Advancements in technology help people get better.”
